Program presentation: Building a Learning Organization through Personal Mastery

Discovery how Personal Mastery will increase employee capability, and leadership effectiveness generating business performance. This interactive session reveals two innovations: a cultural intervention embedded within learning and leadership programs in Shell EP and a structure for online behavioral learning.

During the session you will:

  • Examine a global cultural intervention
  • Experience an online behavioral learning event
  • Relate your own personal values and beliefs to group interactions and leadership effectiveness
  • Contribute your suggestions for scaling this intervention

This personal mastery program extends Peter Senge’s organizational learning distinction from the Fifth Discipline. The extension incorporates the latest neuroscience research, physics, cognitive and constructivist psychology, and linguistics by leading experts. The program takes the best that science has to offer and puts it in a simple step-by-step framework, so every participant can develop the ability to change and learn. Personal mastery is one of a number of components that Shell E&P Learning and Leadership Development created to build a technically competent workforce. Their systemic approach creates an environment where “learning is a way of being."

PM enables participants to generate the confidence to let go of old habits and beliefs, to learn how their choices and decisions impact their life, their surroundings and the organization in which they work. PM helps learners identify what they want and provides the tools to get there. Participants report impact from the program on their career, health, and personal mindset. “I set and achieved a clear intent for my business,” “I got the job of my dreams,” “I improved my health while cutting my health care costs,” and “I am more confident in my decisions."

Ann Burress, Ph.D., has eighteen years of change management and consulting experience. Ann is currently leading change for Shell International Exploration & Production’s Learning and Leadership Development organization, and developing programmatic behavioral change for the global EP business. Erin Burress, MBA has 8 years of business management experience with a strong emphasis on personal performance and effectiveness, coaching, and training & development.
