| September 2006 Chapter Meeting |
| Date: Thursday, September 21 6:30 P.M. Networking Program presentation: Project Management Every project manager must develop a set of management skills appropriate to the task in order to excel as the leader of the team. Being a project manager calls for multiple skills and requires you to play multiple roles – part diplomat, part technical expert, and part salesman. Ensure that you provide your team members with a comfortable environment and provide helpful and meaningful feedback. Protect them from the administrative aspects of the project and be strong when the visitors come to gape and stare. Projects have become much more complex. Now a project manager must deal with budgeting/cost control, resource management, planning, technical guidance, service coordination, schedule control, content and quality. The days of one project, one client, one style and a long term timeline are largely gone. Beth will walk us through good project management phases including building the plan, monitoring, building the soft side, effective management efforts and delivering the goods. Elizabeth Bailey,
President-Elect for DFW and Associate Fellow of the
Society for Technical Communication, has managed documentation, training,
and web development departments. She has participated in numerous ISPI See you there!
